Charlestown Mall Fire of 2020.jpg

On August 27, 2020 at approximately 01:28 we were notified by Dispatch of multiple callers reporting smoke visible from the Charlestown Mall complex. Upon size up it was determined that the affected buildings were fully involved on all stories and spreading to the unaffected sections in a very short window of time. We began fire suppression measures with the aid of several fire departments from both Herkimer and Oneida counties for multiple days. We had our own members and apparatus remaining on scene for a grand total of 8 consecutive days in attempts to extinguish the fire and prevent rekindling from hot spots. It was an amazing team effort by everyone involved and it just goes to show how well we all can come together as a community.
